The CNY Reports, Part 1: My Plan B

2009 April 14

Two weeks ago I went back to my home town of Ithaca/Trumansburg in Central New York (CNY) to see how the area was holding up under the recession.  I also went back to see what it would be like if things got so bad that I had to move home due to unemployment.  Moving home would be my plan B.  The following piece is the first in a four part series that i’ll be producing based on that trip: The CNY Reports.  Part 1: My Plan B.

Featured in this video is music by:
Stars of Harmony, Where Shall I Be
Olu Dara, Bubber
The Avett Brothers, The Lowering (A Sad Day in Greenville Town)
Mississippi John Hurt, Trouble, I’ve had it all my Day

* Sorry artists, I’d have to be getting paid for this to cut you checks.  Links to your albums on Amazon will have to do for now.

Nice piece, John. You’ve probably got a while ’til you have to worry about Plan B, though right? I haven’t looked into it yet, but I’ve been assuming that I could apply for an extension or two on my unemployment benefits. I assume you can too?

I know what you mean about sending in more resumes and how pointless it seems now. I don’t know about you, but i’ve been re-thinking what I want to do career-wise..

The nice thing about your hometown is it seems like at least there’s some young(er) people there, huh? My hometown has barely anyone my age left.. we’ve all moved out of town ‘cus it’s too expensive and there’s no jobs..

    Great video, John

Have you considered a job in video production?

But wait… I tried that, as a career change. I spent thousands getting a Certificate and professional experience. For the last 10 years I’ve been in retail, until each company starts losing money and laying people off.

Your work in inspirational. Good luck!
