Unemployment check arrives, layoffee shrieks with joy

I am delighted to report that I finally got my first unemployment check. After two months of EDD hell, I can finally cash in. This is the hardest$450 I’ve ever earned!  Many people have asked me what I was doing wrong on the forms. It’s kind of embarrassing, but I somehow overlooked (twice) that there were two columns that needed to be ticked off – one for each week. I mean, even an ant can do this.  The lady at the EDD said this is a common mistake. I am sure that it’s not, but I appreciate her kindness. I would like to say that I’m going to put my newfound wealth towards something exciting. Sadly, it will simply cover the basics like housing and my PG&E bill. I may indulge in a much needed haircut – being unemployed is no excuse for ugliness. What I won’t be putting my money towards is anymore lottery tickets.

It may not be much, but the arrival of this check made me happier than Buddy the Elf finding out that Santa is coming to town.

Yes, it is a random comparison, and an untimely one at that. But I just love this movie, so I don’t really care.
