Diaries of a Temp, Chapter Four: Benjamin Button Syndrome

Temping is like your career in reverse.
Developing an Unemploymentality is almost the same as having Benjamin Button Syndrome. At times during this whole exerpience of being unemployed I think I may in fact be growing younger. Take a few symptoms of example:
1. Mom and Dad are funding things again. Its like I’m 16 all over again and asking Dad for shopping money…except this is rent money.
2. Eating cereal in the middle of the day: This behavior is straight out of the Freshman Year Survival Guide.
3. Crying: Saying goodbye to shopping, getting my nails done and eating out has turned me into a blubbering infant.
4. Being entertained easily: Without everyday work and responsibilities, my brain has started to delight in the little things…kind of like my 5 yr old cousin.
5. Resisting making my bed: Lyndsay age 11 would be proud.
6. Unrealistic dreams: I’m channeling my 21 year old self when I imagine winning the lottery and moving to Greece or becoming a pop singer.
7. Challenging Authority: When the staffing agency calls with a crap job I get all high and mighty and say NO. Props to myself in the 6th grade.
8. Caring about loose change: I have adopted a ”No Penny Left Behind” Policy. This is reminiscent of when i got my first allowance at age 7 and relished every cent.
Maybe this return to innocence is good for me…Heck, if it involves toys, Kool-Aid and throwing tantrums how could it be a bad thing?
Maybe I do and maybe I DO,
