A funny thing happened the day after I got laid off – by Anthony Ferraro
2008 December 17
Not everyone responds to being laid off the same way. Some hate it, some love it, and then there’s a wide range of people in between. A good friend of ours here in San Francisco was laid off about a month ago from a job he really enjoyed. He created this video to express his unemploymentality. I’ve been watching this video over and over again and I hope you will do the same.
You can see more of Anthony’s work by visiting his website. Don’t be discouraged by the “under construction” sign on his homepage. Everything works EXCEPT the homepage video. He says that with all his free time he should have it sorted out shortly though.
Anthony- great video! I feel exactly the SAME way! You’ve manage to describe the situation perfectly. I too was living almost paycheck to paycheck for the 3 years I was employed, and boom, the day after I was laid off, I suddenly had a well-padded savings. Go figure…
Hope you’re well
There are still high paying jobs on certain job sites –

http://www.realmatch.com (matches jobs based on skills)
good luck to those looking.
Thanks Susan. Never tried realmatch before. I’ll give it a try1
Yet another reason why I say Anthony’s company laid off the best and the brightest….
Indeed, Ariana.
Wow. It totally made my day. I’ve been nervous every time I hear about lay offs like BoA plans to lay off 35000 people, city group eliminated over 17000 jobs, us car companies failing and some states are running out of money to pay unemployment benefits… all the negative news really made me worry about my tomorrow… and brought me a question, “are we going to be okay?” but I feel kind of free from all the things that I’ve been worried about after I watched your video.
I think we will be okay. Thanks!
Sorry I can’t write more but I just wanted to say beautiful. Thanks, HT.
Anthony, you’re in inspiration my friend. It’s so great to hear a positive voice on a seemingly negative topic, expressed through such a creative and compelling lens.
You just made my holiday!
Really puts things into perspective. About all I can say definitively: 1.0 kicked my ass; 3.0 is inevitable.
This is so good, and sums it up perfectly! I really like the part about so many people getting laid off that it’s not even personal…I’m also amazed howmuch money I don’t spend because I now have time to go grocery shopping and cook for myself, don’t need a drink at the end of every stressed-out work day, and have stopped smoking (since I can go outside whenever I want, and not just on a “smoke break”).
moving anthony. i love it, and i love the calm in your voice.
that was really beautiful, anthony.
Great Video, Anthony. I was laid off too. You are right, you can’t take it personally. I do believe that there will be a better and more fulfilling job for me out there. I believe in “turning pink slips into pink lemonade.” I’ll also add I love this site’s Blogger/Unemployment Index. I started a blog too a few weeks after I got laid off. I just hope when I find a job, I’ll have the time to keep it up. I am actually quite grateful for the time I’ve had with my son over the last few months.
Great Job Anthony! I also found this video (below) ironic and fun.

And then of course, there’s “Odd Todd”

The Job is hilarious! I may have to throw that up on the site properly if we hit a drought…but hopefully Anthony will just keep making us masterpieces.
Hello Everyone,
Thanks for all the positive feedback on this video I made.
To the others commenting here out of work, thanks for sharing.
It’s funny I’ve been making videos and posting them to various sites for a few years. This one has gotten more traction on various sites than everything else I’ve done combined. I may be out of work but, I have a viral video!!! Success
Best
